In this paper, we comprehensively review the experimental and clinical efficacy of TCM against hepatocarcinogenesis and hepatocarcinoma, TCM syndromes in hepatocarcinoma patients and the effective mechanism of TCM in the treatment of hepatocarcinoma, to provide new insights into hepatocarcinoma management. Since these pathological factors are also seen in other diseases, contemporary TCM has developed the concept of cancerous toxicity (Ai-Du) to discriminate liver cancer from other common diseases, and underscore the application of anti-cancer therapy to improve overall therapeutic efficacy in hepatocarcinoma.ĭuring past decades, TCM has been extensively explored to prevent and treat hepatocarcinoma. The pathogenesis of hepatocarcinoma is related to weakened body defense or deficiency in liver and kidney, liver stagnation, dampness-heat, and blood stasis. Based on TCM pathogenesis, TCM syndrome patterns and different disease stage, TCM physicians employ different therapeutic methods, and prescribe multiple herbs for hepatocarcinoma treatment. TCM therapy is a syndrome differentiation based treatment. ![]() Clinical practices have confirmed that TCM is effective to alleviate clinical symptoms, improve quality of life (QOL), palliate myelosuppression, improve immune function, prevent recurrence and metastasis, delay tumor progression, and prolong survival time. TCM treatment mainly includes multiple herbal therapy and Chinese patent herbal drug therapy. TCM has been widely used in all aspects of integrative therapy in hepatocarcinoma, including surgical resection, liver transplantation, chemoembolization, targeted therapy, and even as monotherapy for middle-advanced stage hepatocarcinoma. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has played a positive role in the management of hepatocarcinoma. It is important to develop novel approaches for hepatocarcinoma prevention and treatment. Cancer recurrence is another obstacle to successful treatment, and there is a shortage of preventive means for recurrence. Treatments for unresectable disease, such as local ablative therapies, transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and systemic therapy with sorafenib, are essentially palliative. Due to latent onset and rapid progression, only a minority of patients with early-stage disease are suitable for potentially curative therapy, i.e., surgical resection or liver transplantation. The incidence of hepatocarcinoma is increasing by cause of hepatitis virus infection and other factors. Hepatocarcinoma is the sixth most common malignancy and the third principal cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Along with the progress of research in this field, TCM will contribute more to the prevention and treatment of hepatocarcinoma. ![]() The effective mechanism of TCM against hepatocarcinoma is related to inducing apoptosis, autophagy, anoikis and cell senescence, arresting cell cycle, regulating immune function, inhibiting metastasis and angiogenesis, reversing drug resistance and enhancing effects of chemotherapy. Clinical practices have confirmed that TCM is effective to alleviate clinical symptoms, improve quality of life and immune function, prevent recurrence and metastasis, delay tumor progression, and prolong survival time in hepatocarcinoma patients. ![]() TCM has been widely used in all aspects of integrative therapy in hepatocarcinoma, including surgical resection, liver transplantation, TACE, local ablative therapies and even as monotherapy for middle-advanced stage hepatocarcinoma. Herbs with traditional efficacy of tonifying Qi, blood and Yin, soothing liver-Qi stagnation, clearing heat and detoxifying and dissolving stasis, have been demonstrated to be potent to prevent hepatocarcinogenesis. Modern treatments such as surgery, transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and high intensity focus ultrasound treatment would influence the manifestation of TCM syndromes. Hepatocarcinoma patients may present Qi-stagnation, damp-heat, blood stasis, Qi-deficiency, Yin-deficiency and other TCM syndromes (Zheng).

![]() The P7 Plus, logically, looks far more detailed too. That goes a long way towards usefulness for a lot of people, despite its picture quality shortcomings. The P6X, however, blows them both away by a lot. So the image has more fully white pixels, appearing brighter even though the image quality overall suffers. To put that another way, things that are nearly white are "crushed" to be completely white. The P8's penchant for crushing the highlights makes it appear brighter than it is. Lips look like everyone's wearing particularly vibrant lipstick, for example.ĭespite its lumen claims, the P8 is a touch brighter than the P7 Plus by a few lumens. Don't get me wrong, it's not at all accurate, it's just close enough that you can look at it and not think the settings are messed up. The P7 Plus gets so many things right - the colors are somewhat accurate, especially for the sub-$500 portable set, and skin tones look human! Grass looks vegetative! I've seen far more expensive projectors look significantly less accurate. The P7 Plus isn't very bright, made worse by its mediocre contrast ratio. The P8 has some chonky pixels, badly crushed whites and even in the warm color mode, is quite cool. The colors of the P6X are wildly inaccurate and the video processing is wonky. This is going to sound like I'm damning the P7 Plus with faint praise, but it has the least things wrong with its image in this group. The P8 is even cheaper, but also dimmer and even lower resolution than the P6X. The P6X is basically the same price and has a brighter image, but lower resolution. Which is all to say, I don't plan on doing this single-company face-off again, but for now, these three make the most sense given the current state of projectors. The ones with batteries also typically wildly underperform those without. Even the better options have some serious flaws. This far under $500 there's not much I've found that's particularly noteworthy. When selecting the projectors to compare to the product under test, I try to keep the price and performance - and ideally both - close enough that the comparison makes sense. A rare, perhaps unprecedented, single-company comparison. Well, this is different: Three AAXA projectors head-to-head-to-head. From left to right: The AAXA P6X, P7 Plus and P8. ![]() People are fascinated with them, and it's not something you'd expect to see in Montana." It began with a single "mermaid" in the pool on New Year's Eve in 1995. During the 1990s, the idea of having mermaids swim in the pool during evening bar hours was the brainchild of the bar's general manager, Sandra Johnson-Thares, and her mother, who wanted to add a "fun factor". Though tiki bars in general declined in popularity in the late 1970s and 1980s until the revival of the style in the 1990s, the Sip 'n Dip survived with few changes. The tropical theme was also viewed as a fun concept for Montana, a landlocked state with long, cold winters. When built in the 1960s, the O'Haire Motor Inn was considered "swank" and modern, and the tiki concept was popular, in part due to the then-recent admission of Hawaii to the United States as a state. The concept of a swimming pool designed so that underwater swimmers can be viewed from inside the bar was original to the building, as the person who built the O'Haire had been inspired by a similar design he saw when visiting the Playboy Club in Chicago. The bar usually employs six women, who wear mermaid outfits designed and hand-made by the bar's manager, Sandra Johnson-Thares. Beginning in 2003, the bar began to gain prominence outside Montana, when the magazine GQ listed the lounge in its list of the top ten bars in the world, ranking it as the "#1 bar.worth flying for". It became popular, particularly for Montana, a landlocked northern state where a tropical tiki theme is unexpected. The mermaid concept was introduced in 1995 when there was a revival of the tiki fad and was the brainchild of the bar's current owner who wanted to add a "fun factor". Decorated with a bamboo ceiling and a South Seas theme, the bar featured "Piano Pat" Spoonheim, noted for her unique "jazzy" style, who played piano there from 1963 until her death in May 2021. Located inside a local motel that was considered modern and trendy at the time it was built, the Sip 'n Dip is known for having people dressed as mermaids swimming underwater in an indoor swimming pool visible through a window in the bar. It has survived to the present day with its tiki theme intact.
